VR-Based Digital Twin Platform for Training for a Global Sustainable Development Agency

The Challenge

Client is a global development agency, focuses on promoting energy-efficient practices within the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector, faced several challenges in conducting specialized training programs for MSMEs:

  • Inefficiency and Limited Scalability: The need for physical presence at the training facility made the process resource-intensive and difficult to scale. MSMEs had to travel to the facility, increasing logistical costs and time requirements.
  • Access to Training for Remote MSMEs: Many MSMEs located in remote areas were unable to participate in the training due to travel constraints, reducing the outreach and effectiveness of the initiative.

To address these issues, the agency sought a solution that could enable immersive training at scale without requiring MSMEs to travel to the physical training center.

The Objective

The agency aimed to leverage a VR-based Digital Twin platform to make their training more accessible and scalable. Their primary objectives included:

  • Enabling energy-efficiency training for MSMEs across various locations without the need to travel to the training facility.
  • Creating an immersive, interactive training experience that could mimic the physical environment of the training center.
  • Providing an adaptable platform where both trainers and trainees could engage in effective learning and practice.

DAIPL developed a VR-based Digital Twin platform of the training facility, specifically tailored to address the scalability and accessibility challenges:

  • Digital Twin of the Training Facility: A detailed virtual replica of the physical training center was created, allowing the agency to take the training environment directly to MSME clusters. The VR platform provided a realistic simulation, ensuring the training experience closely resembled actual hands-on work.
  • Dual-Mode Platform for Trainers and Trainees: The platform was designed with two modes:
    • VR Mode for Trainers: Trainers utilized the VR mode to conduct sessions that simulated real-life training, offering an immersive experience that felt like the actual training facility.
    • Non-VR Mode for Trainees: Trainees accessed the platform in a non-VR mode, allowing them to practice skills without specialized VR equipment. This flexibility ensured that MSMEs of varying technological capabilities could still benefit from the training.
  • Backend System for Performance Tracking: A backend system was implemented to monitor and record trainee progress and performance, allowing the agency to gather insights on the effectiveness of training sessions and improve future programs.
