Their flagship voyage informatics platform, Podium, offers comprehensive insights into past vessel performance, real-time tracking, and predictive analytics to optimize future voyages.

As company expanded its capabilities through third-party integrations and acquisitions, the company faced several challenges:

  • Complex Multi-Cloud Infrastructure: Multiple acquisitions led to a fragmented multi-cloud setup, which negatively impacted interoperability and security, hindering business innovations.
  • Scalability and Data Handling: Existing services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) were not optimized for scalability, impacting data processing, and limiting the company’s data analytics and machine learning needs.
  • Manual Inefficiencies: Manual workflows were slowing down operations, increasing costs, and leading to inefficiencies and errors. The company needed a platform that could manage petabytes of data and support their data-driven goals with enhanced cloud-native and big data technologies.

DAIPL deployed a series of advanced cloud solutions to meet company’s needs:

  • Cloud Migration and Modernization: Using a lift-and-shift approach, DAIPL migrated certain workloads and a 50GB database from GCP to AWS. To enhance modularity, we leveraged hundreds of microservices, container orchestration through Kubernetes, and a declarative syntax via Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • DevSecOps and Automation: Security was integrated into all stages of development using DevSecOps and IaC principles, creating a robust multi-availability zone infrastructure and ensuring security throughout. Terraform enabled seamless automation and standardized deployments.
  • Data Protection and Recovery: Velero was implemented to back up and restore data within Kubernetes environments, ensuring company had reliable disaster recovery and data protection.
  • Scalable Data Integration: We introduced Amazon Athena for automated report generation and AWS Glue for scalable, serverless data engineering. This architecture enabled company to process data from multiple sources rapidly, supporting application development, data analytics, and machine learning with near real-time efficiency.
